I’ll be making these next:
DRIVEL #2: The Rest Issue
The new issue of my zine series is almost ready -- it’s about rest in all its meanings. Rest as in rest & relaxation, rest as in musical pauses, rest as in the REST program that provides post-hospital-stay medical respite in a homeless shelter in Olympia, Washington. I’m pretty proud of this one. I hope I can release it soon.
My Hat!
I’m writing and illustrating a picture book about a witch who loses her hat in Golden Gate Park, and chaos ensues. It’s cute!
Never the Muse
Songs for Moms was a beloved Bay Area punk band, and I filmed their 2016 reunion shows with my friend Robert eggplant. We'll eventually edit the footage in a short documentary film, focusing on the band's music, while also exploring radical communities and underground culture.
Creativity Club
I like to work on creative projects in three-part sessions, I used to call them “Magical Mondays.”
The basic premise is you work on the first draft of something for 60 minutes, take a 30 minute break, edit something else for 60 minutes (it shouldn’t be the first draft you just created, which needs time to rest), take another 30 minute break, then spend 60 minutes doing some sort of creative research or reflection, whatever gets you inspired. You could also do this for 2 hours, if 4 hours is too long, it’s just the formula of 2x minutes/x minutes/2x minutes/x minutes/2x minutes.
Anyway. I want to host monthly workshops where we gather and work on our own individual projects while following this timeframe. Please come! I promise I’ll come up with a better name than Creativity Club!
Queen of Fruits
Mangosteens, called "the queen of fruits," are considered by many to be the best-tasting fruit in the world. I want to make a short documentary film that celebrates the legends (Queen Victoria offered a knighthood to the first person who could bring her a mangosteen), international intrigue (missing flight MH370 was carrying four tons of mangosteens), and obsessive fans (like me) of this delicious delicacy.
Friends, Mates, Chums
Three cousins - one from Australia, one from England, and one from the United States (me) - will appear in a short and silly documentary film. We'll discuss our upbringings, our family, and the unexpected differences of our three home countries. The film crew will consist entirely of our relatives.
Rail, Trail, & Sail
I love car-free travel, and car-free life in general. I want to host a travel show that spotlights car-free trips you can take by train, by walking or biking, or by boat. I’d start with Rail, Trail, & Sail: California and then do Rail, Trail, & Sail: Great Britain.
